GEOGRAPHIC RANGE INFORMATION

Encephalartos hirsutus is known from three separate localities in the Soutpansberg region of the Limpopo Province, South Africa. Recorded from 800 to 1,000 m above sea level.

 

 

HABITAT AND ECOLOGY INFORMATION

Plants grow exposed on south-east-facing quartzite cliffs, in moist semi-deciduous mixed shrubland

The rainfall is between 350-650 mm per annum.

Currently considered extinct in nature.
